My favorite load for my 45-70 has been to use Sierra 300 gn JHP, over 48.7 gns of IMR4198,and CCI 200 primers: (2100 fps per the Hornady manual): I get great accuracy with these, and great knock down power. I am now out of the IMR4198, and unable to locate any ,,,, The 444 has a slight advantage in that it shoots a little flatter and has a higher velocity. It is capable of taking any North American game with the right bullet. Not knocking the 45 70, It is a very good cartridge. But the 444 has nothing to be ashamed of.
