From what I understand it is the injection pump making noise, the new engines are so quiet that it is more audible but all duramaxes do it and is normal, never noticed on the LMM but very noticeable on the L5P. Thanks all, sounds like it’s normal. Wish it wasn’t there but whatever…. My 2019 does the same.

Can hear it easily when standing outside front or when listening near front wheel wells and from inside the truck. This is my 4th Duramax so I am familiar with all the ticking noise complaints but this is not a tick. The noise could be described as an irregular ticking or clacking sound, like random typing on a mechanical typewriter. This condition has been present in diesel engines produced for the last 20 or more years.
